KAL shoot fiasco

So, Friday I went up to the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago to shoot this Serbian Gypsy band for some German Record label that got ahold of me somehow, still not entirely sure how that happened, but I’ll take it!

Anyway, we were suppose to shoot at 4 p.m. and the lead singer of the band calls and says that he’s exhausted and wants to do the shoot at 9.30 p.m. I was like, well, I have a plane to catch and we can’t do it that late. So he says, “Well, I’m exhausted, you know, I mean, I have to go to the hospital.” That seemed kind of fishy to me, but I consented to a 6 p.m. shoot, right after their soundcheck at 5. The “un-hospitalized” guys didn’t show up til 5.45 and then soundchecked til 6.45 and then had to go get into their stage clothes for photos, so we started photos at just after 7 and ended at 7.20, because their show started at 7.30… plus all the spots I had scouted were no good because the light had gone. What a mess. Oh well, it’s done and all are happy!

I don’t want to sound smug, these guys were exhausted and they were easy to work with. I actually understood a few things they were saying when they were speaking their gypsy language to each other, it sounded like Romanian.

Photos tomorrow…
